Specialists from the Civil Guard rescued the body of a 48-year-old American climber this Thursday, who died in a pond typically used for bathing in the Pyrenean municipality of Salinas de Bielsa, in Huesca.
According to the fire department of Huesca, the alert was raised around 2:00 PM this Thursday by the deceased’s fellow climbers of the same nationality, through a phone call to the emergency number 112.
Rescue teams from the Civil Guard in Boltaña were dispatched to the site of the incident, a pool located under the Cinca bridge on the A-138 road connecting to the Vall de Chistau, to recover the submerged body.
The sources consulted did not specify whether the death was due to drowning or injuries caused by a collision with the rocks.
The victim was part of a group of climbers from the United States who were traveling through mountainous areas across Europe and arrived in the province of Huesca yesterday after spending a few days in the French Pyrenees.
