A Score of Political Parties Sign Joint Statement Rejecting Attack on Uribe

A score of Colombian political parties, from all ideological backgrounds, have signed a statement rejecting the attack on Senator Miguel Uribe. “This act of violence not only threatens the life of a political leader but also undermines the democratic foundations of our nation,” the document states.

The right-wing Democratic Center and the ruling coalition, along with the leftist Historical Pact, have joined forces to call for violence to not be “a tool for political confrontation or debate of ideas.”

The statement also includes signatures from other movements such as the Green Alliance, the Conservative Party, the Liberal Party, the Party of the U, Commons, Patriotic Union, among others.

“We reaffirm our commitment to a Colombia where differences are resolved through dialogue and arguments, not with weapons,” they urged.
