The images speak for themselves, and the subsequent statements reinforce a firm stance from Flavio Briatore, the head of Alpine, regarding the tolerance towards Franco Colapinto‘s performances with the French team. To make matters worse, this Saturday the driver from Pilar made another mistake in the qualifying for the British Grand Prix, spinning out and getting eliminated from Q1. As a result, the Argentine will start from the last position on the grid in Sunday’s race.
After the mishap, when the car collided with the barriers, the cameras focused on the Italian businessman, who bowed his head and held his face, clearly showing signs of anger and frustration.
True to his style, Briatore was blunt in his comments about Colapinto’s performance. “Franco knows he made a mistake and needs to improve and come back stronger tomorrow”, he said in reference to the main race at Silverstone.
On the contrary, he praised the performance of the Argentine’s teammate, Frenchman Pierre Gasly, who will start in 8th position on the grid. “Given the problems we faced throughout the weekend with the car’s handling and the reactions of both drivers, the team and Pierre made a great effort to get the car into Q3,” he emphasized.
Lastly, in a clear message for Franco, Briatore admitted that “what today demonstrates once again is that, regardless of the difficulties we face as a team, we must always strive to the maximum and optimize performance with the package we have.”
