The Argentine driver Franco Colapinto expressed his frustration over the mechanical problems he experienced with his Alpine A525 car, which forced him to abandon the race this Sunday in Britain.
“It’s a shame not even to start. It makes me very angry”, he lamented at the press conference.
“I really don’t know what happened. We still don’t know. I couldn’t even leave the pit. It’s a pity that these things are happening to us. We’ve had a couple of issues lately and, after a good weekend where I had found a lot of performance and we had a good overall pace, I think it’s a shame this happened,” he regretted in his dialogue with the press.
“It was a good race to participate in, considering everything that happened: the rain, the tire changes, and all the weather factors that made the race unpredictable,” he added regarding how the British competition unfolded.
In the conference this Sunday, he also mentioned the performance of his Alpine teammate, Pierre Gasly. “I’m sad because I believe I was faster than Pierre this weekend, and seeing where he is now finishing, we might have had a good opportunity. We need to keep working focused on what’s next, but it’s a pity I couldn’t even start. It makes me very angry,” he stated.
He added: “There were many opportunities. I would have loved to be in the race and try something. I have a bit of frustration (because) I couldn’t even start; it’s something no driver wants.”
Regarding what might have happened with his car, he said, “On the formation laps in the rain with the intermediates, the car was doing well. I was happy with the balance too. But then, I couldn’t even start,” noted Colapinto, who stated he felt “sad and a bit frustrated because the weekend ended this way.”
“It had started well. We had taken an important step forward. A bit sad about how it ended up,” he insisted regarding the bitter taste left by his frustrated start after completing the mandatory reconnaissance lap.
“I really don’t know what happened. I have no idea. I couldn’t leave the pit, and they are still investigating. So, we need to get to work for the next race to ensure this doesn’t happen again. We have to focus on what’s next,” the driver continued. He concluded, regarding the races awaiting him in the coming weeks: “There will be tracks I like, that I enjoy driving. We have to see what we can do and have a better weekend there. A bit of reset and come back better.”
