After a rough start on Friday – finishing 16th and 20th in free practice – where he felt uncomfortable with his car, the Pilar driver improved his performance on Saturday by reaching Qualifying 2, just a few tenths away from Qualifying 3, securing a 14th place start. Regarding this, after finishing the Qualification, the Alpine driver said he felt “a bit better”.
“Progress was made. I felt a bit better, a bit closer, but we need to keep progressing. It’s a shame because I see I’m just a tenth away from the Top 10, and it frustrates me a little,” he stated. He added, “We need to keep working. It was a bit of a complicated weekend that we managed to resolve, so now it’s time to focus on the race.”
The circuit located in Spielberg is one of the most legendary in the tournament, with an alpine backdrop and fast curves, and a first half featuring long straights. There are 71 laps, and Max Verstappen holds the record with 4 victories on this track.
The monument to Niki Lauda closely watches every inch of the race. The Austrian driver claimed that the 1984 Austrian GP, one of the years he became champion, “was one of the most exciting and decisive moments” of his career.
