Boric congratulates Jara: “Immediately takes the lead of progressive forces towards the future”
President Gabriel Boric has congratulated the presidential candidate of the Communist Party, Jeannette Jara, who has won the ruling party’s primary and will represent the left in the November elections.
In a message on his X account, the president mentioned that his former Minister of Labor will face a challenging electoral campaign, but he praised her efforts to achieve unity among progressives. “I salute and embrace Jeannette Jara for the tremendous support she received today. She immediately takes the lead of progressive forces towards the future, which has clearly chosen her as its leader. What lies ahead will not be easy, but Jeannette knows about difficult battles. Now, let’s all work together for unity, with affection and openness to invite the majority of our compatriots to continue building a fairer, safer, and happier country,” he said.
Boric also acknowledged the defeated candidates. “My eternal respect goes to Carolina Tohá, Gonzalo Winter, and Jaime Mulet. Defeats are always hard, but they are moments when we might grow the most, and it’s always better when we do so together. I know you are here to continue building this Chile that we all want. As president, I highly value the practice of primaries, allowing the people to decide who will be on the final ballot in November, and today, more than one million four hundred thousand people made a decision, strengthening democracy,” he stated.
