The chilling way in which the external parts of Agustín Martínez’s truck are dismantled gives a dark tint to the endless tumble during the race of TC Pick Up in La Plata. The protective cage, which every race car has, withstood the impacts and spins that the Ford Ranger of the driver from Entre Ríos experienced in one of the fastest areas of the Roberto Mouras racetrack. Quickly attended by the medical rescue service and the first aid hospital located on the premises, it was confirmed that there were no injuries requiring urgent attention, but he was transferred to a hospital for further studies after the fright during the 4th round of the championship.
Three laps before the end of the race, an incident occurred where the son of Omar ‘Gurí’ Martínez, positioned ninth, was negatively impacted. The contact happened on the main straight with Nicolás Impiombato (Toyota Hilux) and Matías Frano (Ford Ranger), which explains the speed of the impact that destroyed the Pickup.
Only the thumbs-up from the injured driver brought reassurance as the race was neutralized. After the initial medical tasks, it was determined to transfer him to Bazterrica Clinic in Buenos Aires for standard medical assessments, according to the usual protocol for such impacts.
“We inform that Agustín Martínez, TC Pick Up driver, is stable with multiple traumas and was transferred to Bazterrica Clinic in Buenos Aires following the accident that occurred today for various medical examinations” – ACTC
During the race, Agustín Canapino led from start to finish and claimed his first victory in the truck category of the ACTC. The Chevrolet S10 driver became the winner in just three races within the division, ahead of Mariano Werner (Toyota Hilux) and Gastón Mazzacane (VW Amarok).
The arrecifeño faced issues with the gearbox, which risked his victory and gave hope to his pursuer, Werner. However, the prior advantage combined with the entrance of the “pace car” to rescue the injured three laps from the finish provided the breather Canapino needed to secure the win.
With this result, the tournament is led by Werner with 157 points, followed by Juan Pablo Gianini (151.5) and Andrés Jakos (125). The next event will be on the weekend of July 27, when the 5th round of the season will be held again in La Plata.
