Morrissey, former vocalist and founder of The Smiths, has canceled the concert scheduled for this Thursday, June 12, at the Noches del Botánico festival in Madrid, less than 24 hours before its scheduled start. “Morrissey is receiving medical treatment for a case of acute sinusitis. As a result, and with great regret, the performance scheduled for tomorrow in Madrid has been canceled,” the artist’s team stated in a press release shared by the organizers. Due to the impossibility of rescheduling, the organization confirms the definitive cancellation of the event.
The British artist has not performed in Spain for a decade, and the date in Madrid was the only one on a European tour that began at the end of last month. Tickets for the concert in Madrid had sold out in just 10 minutes. Noches del Botánico has informed that digitally purchased tickets will be automatically refunded without any additional action required, while physical ticket holders will need to request a refund at the point of sale. Furthermore, the organization warns: “We remind you that this concert is no longer available on any official platform. If you see tickets still advertised, please do not purchase them, as they may come from fraudulent websites or unauthorized resale channels.”
The acute sinusitis mentioned by the singer’s team also forced him to cancel the end of his tour in the United States after being hospitalized. This is the latest in a long and controversial history of cancellations.
