Racing Shined in Paraguay with a Friendly Match Against Olimpia Amidst the Uncertainty Surrounding Salas’s Potential Move to River

Racing thrashed Olimpia 4-1 this Saturday in an international friendly held at Defensores del Chaco. With goals from Adrián Fernández, an own goal by Gustavo Vargas, Bruno Zuculini, and Ramiro Degregorio, the Academia made a strong impression in Paraguay and will return to official competition this Wednesday, when they face San Martín de San Juan in the Copa Argentina in San Luis. The local team scored a consolation goal through Sebastián Ferreira.

In the midst of the conflict over his possible transfer to River, Maximiliano Salas played for one half, and the entire team led by Gustavo Costas supported him.

Salas started on the bench, came in during the second half, and assisted in Zuculini’s goal, who scored after the rebound given by the goalkeeper following a shot from the Corrientes player.

After the match in Asunción, Zuculini spoke to the press and, in an interview with ESPN, referred to the situation facing Salas. “Maxi has the Racing jersey, he completed the entire preseason with us. He is a great teammate; I only have words of gratitude for him,” expressed the midfielder, who returned to the Academia—the club where he debuted—just after his time at River.

However, prior to the match, the Academia fans who came to watch the friendly expressed their discontent over Salas’s intention to move to Núñez and booed him when the stadium announcer called his name among the substitutes.
