The president has defended the use of troops during the three-day protests against his immigration policies.
The National Guard of the United States was deployed this Sunday in Los Angeles by order of Donald Trump to repel protests against immigration raids, which has caused tension with local government and residents. Trump declared on Monday that the city would have been “completely destroyed” if he had not deployed the officers. On his social media platform, Truth Social, the president accused California Governor Gavin Newsom and city Mayor Karen Bass of lying by claiming that the troops were unnecessary.
The National Guard was specifically ordered to protect federal buildings, including the city detention center where protesters gathered. California authorities have announced plans to file a lawsuit against the president in response to the extraordinary deployment of troops.
