The Formula 1 Grand Prix of Spain will take place in the Community of Madrid on September 11, 12, and 13, 2026, as indicated by the calendar published by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) for the upcoming year. “With Madrid and Barcelona, Spain becomes one of the strongest countries on the circuit,” wrote the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, on her social media afterward.

The circuit, named Madring, will be 5.4 kilometers long, featuring 22 curves around the Ifema Madrid exhibition center and the areas designated for its expansion in Valdebebas. It will be a technical layout with very complex sections, such as the banked turn, the Monumental, which aims to be an “icon” of the championship.

In its inaugural year, Madring will coexist with the Catalan circuit of Montmeló (scheduled for June 12 to 14, 2026). While the new capital circuit has all the ingredients to become a key reference in the motorsport calendar, it remains to be seen what will happen with Barcelona, whose contract with F1 expires in that same year, 2026.

Despite Madrid’s entrance into the F1 calendar, the 24 stops during the season remain intact due to the exit of the Imola circuit, the Emilia-Romagna GP, whose contract ends in 2025. The Mexico GP at the Hermanos Rodríguez circuit, however, has renewed its agreement, extending it to 2028 and will be held on its usual date, the antepenultimate stop of the year.

“2026 will be a new era for Formula 1 where we will witness a new set of regulations for our sport, with cars and engines powered by 100% sustainable fuel,” emphasized Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, on the championship’s website.

The World Championship will kick off in Australia from March 6 to 8 and conclude in Abu Dhabi on December 6. Among the changes made to facilitate transportation and logistics, the Canadian Grand Prix will take place after the Miami GP, from May 22 to 24. This change will result in a European tour of nine races starting in early June with the Monaco GP and culminating in Madrid.

The championship’s final stretch will focus in America, featuring four Grand Prix: two in the United States (Austin and Las Vegas), one in Brazil, and another in Mexico, before closing in Asia with races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
