The Hay Festival Querétaro aims to give voice to intergenerational dialogues in its tenth anniversary. The festival, one of the most representative events in the literary and arts field, will take place from September 4 to 7 this year, across various locations in the capital of Querétaro.
The international director of the Hay Festival, Cristina Fuentes la Roche, states that the organization is already celebrating the event with enthusiasm three months before its start. “We bring together established national figures and emerging stars in their respective disciplines, as well as major figures in literature, thought, and music,” she explains in a statement released by the organization. In this tenth year, the event is expected to gather 150 participants from 17 countries. “More than a cultural celebration, it solidifies as a collective act of hope, an invitation to imagine new worlds,” the director continues.
One of the major highlights of this new edition is the event “Constellations Hay Festival,” a project driven by conversations with established national figures and emerging stars. “The project seeks to redefine the cultural sky of Mexico,” the statement reads. Notable participants include actor Diego Luna, who will talk about activism; Eduardo Matos Moctezuma and Patricia Ledesma on archaeology; and Juan Villoro and Aura García-Junco, who will discuss literature.
The edition also aims to gather prominent writers from Colombia, such as Juan Gabriel Vásquez, with his work The Names of Feliza; and Piedad Bonnett, who will present The Uncertain Woman.
Additionally, there will be voices from other South American countries, such as Paulina Flores from Chile, who will present The Next Time I See You, I’ll Kill You; or Brazilian Mariana Salomão Carrara, with If It Were Not for the Syllables on Saturday.
The festival will also feature a space for critical thought and world analysis. Experts will focus on global conversations, with voices like Pankaj Mishra (India) or American Reed Brody; as well as addressing authoritarian regimes, alongside Brody (author of Capturing a Dictator) and journalist Andrea Rizzi (The Era of Revenge).
The edition will cover various topics, from music (with musicians like Argentine Kevin Johansen and Liniers) to the environment and indigenous peoples. A blend of nationalities and experts – both recognized and emerging – that the public can access for 10 pesos (free for the university community and senior citizens).
