Ten years ago, Donald Trump descended the golden escalators of his New York tower to leap into politics and changed history. The businessman unexpectedly won the Republican primary and later the presidential election. The politician has never stopped being a businessman and has leveraged his position, especially in this second term, to make deals. The Trump Organization has used the anniversary of its political arrival to announce its entry into the telecommunications business with the launch of Trump Mobile.
While the president attends the G7 summit, his sons Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. introduced the family’s new business. Trump Mobile appeals to economic nationalism and will utilize wireless networks and hardware “made in the USA,” although it will mainly rely on the networks of other companies.
You can be a customer of Trump Mobile with any phone, but Trump Mobile has begun marketing its own domestically produced mobile device at a price of $499 plus taxes. The phone, called T1, features a golden casing with the American flag, according to the designs presented. The mobile will be available in September, but orders are already being accepted. On the Trump Mobile website, the phone’s screen displays Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”
The device will operate on the Android operating system, has a 12GB processor, 256GB of internal memory, a 50-megapixel main camera, and a 6.8-inch screen. It is not specified who manufactures the phone or where it will be produced. Apple, the world leader, manufactures its phones in Asia because U.S. production is not competitive.
Trump Mobile will be a virtual mobile operator that will launch a service called Plan 47 at a price of $47.45 per month. Trump is the 45th and 47th president of the United States. According to the Trump Organization, it will offer unlimited calls, texts, and data; 24/7 roadside assistance through Drive America, telemedicine services including virtual healthcare, mental health support, and easy ordering and delivery of prescription medications, along with free international calls to over 100 countries, “including many with U.S. military bases, to help honor the families who serve bravely in our armed forces abroad.”
The Trump Organization claims to have reached an agreement with the three major U.S. mobile companies (Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T) to provide its service through their networks. Therefore, the announcement that it will operate with U.S. technology is somewhat misleading, as those companies do not limit their technology to domestic suppliers.
Trump Mobile will also have a customer service department based in the United States. “Trump Mobile’s customer service is not automated. When customers call, they speak with a real person,” the company emphasizes.
“We have partnered with some of the most important people in the industry to ensure that everyday Americans get real value from their mobile operators,” said the president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., when introducing the company.
“We will be presenting a complete package of products that will allow users to access telemedicine services on their phones for a fixed monthly fee, roadside assistance for their cars, and unlimited texting to 100 countries around the world,” he added.
Trump’s company applied last week to use the president’s name and the term T1 for telecommunications services, although it did not provide details of its plans at that time. The applications submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office cover mobile phones, cases, battery chargers, and wireless phone services, as well as potentially retail stores.
The Trump family, known for its real estate empire, luxury hotels, and resorts with golf courses, has ventured into new businesses in recent years, such as digital media and cryptocurrencies. Trump Media, the company that owns Truth Social, is valued at over $5 billion on the stock market despite its losses and low revenues. The company has recently raised capital and issued bonds to purchase bitcoins.
