Just hours before the deadline set by FIFA, River officially announced the list of 34 players who will compete in the upcoming Club World Cup. The squad managed by Marcelo Gallardo will travel to the United States on Wednesday night and will base itself in the city of Seattle, where on Tuesday the 17th it will debut against Urawa Red Diamonds from Japan. Without reinforcements during the special ten-day transfer window allowed by the highest football authority, the only new addition in the call-up is the presence of Lautaro Rivero, a left-footed central defender, 21 years old, who returned to the club after a great first half of the year with Central Córdoba from Santiago del Estero.
As previously agreed, Franco Mastantuono will play for River in the Club World Cup and will then move to Real Madrid in a record transfer for Argentine football. Notably, several youth players from the Reserve team have been included, such as midfielders Giorgio Costantini and Santiago Lencina, and forward Bautista Dadín. Of all of them, Lencina is the only one who has had brief playtime with the first team. Additionally, Agustín Ruberto will also be part of the trip but is not on the list as he is recovering from a anterior cruciate ligament rupture in his knee.
The list includes Franco Armani, Jeremías Ledesma, Lucas Lavagnino, and Santiago Beltrán (goalkeepers); Gonzalo Montiel, Fabricio Bustos, Germán Pezzella, Federico Gattoni, Paulo Díaz, Leandro González Pirez, Lucas Martínez Quarta, Lautaro Rivero, Marcos Acuña, and Milton Casco (defenders); Enzo Pérez, Kevin Castaño, Matías Kranevitter, Rodrigo Aliendro, Santiago Simón, Maximiliano Meza, Ignacio Fernández, Manuel Lanzini, Gonzalo Martínez, Matías Rojas, Giuliano Galoppo, Franco Mastantuono, Santiago Lencina, and Giorgio Costantini (midfielders); and Miguel Borja, Facundo Colidio, Sebastián Driussi, Gonzalo Tapia, Ian Subiabre, and Bautista Dadín (forwards).
A very curious situation occurs with defender Federico Gattoni, who is on loan to River until June 30. If the team advances to the Round of 16, the club will need to request special permission to continue having him or directly release him. For that stage, the list can be modified with additions and removals. After their debut against the Japanese team, River will play on Saturday the 21st at 22:00 (local time) against Monterrey from Mexico at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena (Los Angeles) and will conclude its participation in the group stage on Wednesday the 25th facing Inter Milan in Seattle.
